The red velvet is a cake made from flour, cocoa, butter, and vegetable dye, which gives it its red color.

Red velvet, also known as “Red Velvet”, is characterized by being a cake with a soft texture and can currently be found in cupcakes or ice cream. About its origin this is uncertain, some say that it emerged during World War II and others in the early 1800s.

Before vegetable dyes existed, the red color of red velvet cake was made from beetroot, which was mixed with flour, butter, and cocoa. These ingredients are still preserved in the original recipe with a sweet cream cheese filling and topping.

Easy and simple red velvet recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 box of 432 grams Betty Crocker Super Moist Cake Mix Red Velvet chocolate flavor cake mix
  • 100 milliliters of chilled whipping cream
  • 20 milliliters of whipping cream (for the churros)
  • 1 package of Philadelphia cheese
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • breadcrumbs to decorate

Fluffy red velvet with cream cheese step by step

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. 

Step 2

Prepare the bread with the Betty Crocker flour following the instructions.

Step 3

Empty into one or two previously greased and floured baking molds or with star paper. This will depend on the height you want. We recommend that you leave three layers of bread and two cream cheese filling. 

Step 4

Bake at 180 degrees for 30 minutes or until needed. Check its cooking by inserting a knife in the center, if it comes out dry it is time to remove it from the oven. 

Step 5

In a bowl, beat the cream to beat at high speed until it forms peaks. In another bowl, beat the cream cheese and add the vanilla. Combine both mixtures.

Step 6

When the bread is cold and can be unmolded, divide it into three parts. 

Step 7

On a base place a part of the bread and then stuffed it with cream cheese. So, until finishing with a layer of bread. 

Step 8

For its decoration, coat the top part with whipping cream and make some small churros with breadcrumbs on them. 

Gastronomic advice

To decorate the rest, beat 100 milliliters of whipping cream and iron it, and place a couple of breadcrumbs on the bottom. If you want a butter bitumen, mix icing sugar, cream cheese, butter, and vanilla essence, or paste. 

Nutritional tip

For a more natural, color-free recipe, mix ¼ cup buttermilk with ⅓ cup finely grated raw beets.
